Reactions have trailed Victor Osimhen’s failed transfer saga it finally came to an end following the close of the 2024 summer transfer window, with the Nigerian striker deciding to stay at Napoli despite interest from Chelsea and Al-Ahli.
Osimhen had been linked with a move away from Napoli all summer, but a late approach from Chelsea and Al-Ahli was not enough to persuade him to leave which also sparked reactions from fans both home and abroad.
Osimhen’s decision to stay at Napoli was against the expectation of a lot of football fans especially after Romelu Lukaku joined the former Serie A Champions. The Nigerian striker had been pushing for a transfer away from Napoli, but the club’s refusal to agree on transfer fees with either Chelsea or Al-Ahli led to the collapse of the deal.
Despite the turmoil, Osimhen has decided to stay at Napoli, where he will compete with Lukaku for a place in the starting lineup. The striker’s decision to stay will see him work under new manager Antonio Conte, who had already made it clear that he was not ready to work with Osimhen.
Here are some of the reactions from football fans on Victor Osimhen’s failed transfer
Victor Osimhen didn’t stay back at Napoli cos he wanted to play.. he did cos they wrecked 2 big moves & was pushing him to a club that offered him peanuts.- He was never going to get bullied & stood his ground. At whe end of the day, He will get be paid. Playing or not.— Buchi Laba (@Buchi_Laba) August 31, 2024
Osimhen didn’t force Chelsea. Chelsea didn’t force Osimhen. It was a negotiation. Osimhen refused to take a pay cut, Chelsea refused to pay up. The deal collapsed. Don’t blame Osimhen. Don’t blame Chelsea. Now everyone, go back to your families.— 𝐒𝐈𝐑 𝐉𝐄𝐑𝐑𝐘 (@SirJerry_cfc) August 31, 2024

Osimhen renewed his Napoli contract in December 2023. Chelsea offered him the same salary he was earning before the renewal, with a potential increase to match his current wages if we qualify for the UCL or if he scores a certain number of goals. You expect us to pay Champions…— Series ‘Baj (@Engr_Series) August 31, 2024

Sad situation for Victor Osimhen — the reigning African Player of the Year. Napoli have excluded him from their Serie A squad and also handed his favorite number 9 shirt to Lukaku. Life really comes at you fast. #AfricanFootball pic.twitter.com/Ie38gUcNht— Micky Jnr (@MickyJnr__) August 31, 2024
What I find sad is that Victor Osimhen may not play professional club football again until January, based on what Antonio Conte has said. pic.twitter.com/JetrQ4xfpG— Frank Khalid OBE (@FrankKhalidUK) August 31, 2024
